Manchester — A New Hampshire State Police K-9 apprehended a man early Saturday after troopers said a high-speed pursuit crossed several towns and ended in Manchester.
pursuit began near the Maine border
State police said the incident began shortly before midnight Saturday, when troopers were advised that Maine State Police had been pursuing a 2013 Nissan Altima on Interstate 95 southbound approaching the New Hampshire line. Trooper Daniel Bourque later located the vehicle on I-95 in Hampton, where Maine authorities were no longer in pursuit.
Police said the car was being driven recklessly at speeds exceeding 100 mph. When Bourque attempted a traffic stop, the driver refused to pull over and a pursuit ensued. The chase continued as the vehicle left I-95 and traveled west on Route 101 through multiple communities, according to state police.
tactics, crash and K-9 arrest
Additional troopers and Candia police officers deployed tire-deflation devices as the vehicle entered Candia; the devices struck the car, but police said the driver continued onto I-93 southbound and later onto I-293 northbound in Manchester. State police said the Nissan struck a guardrail, came to a stop and the driver fled on foot.
- Trooper Joshua Farmer deployed his partner, K-9 Soka, who located and apprehended the fleeing man in Manchester.
- The driver, identified by police as a 42-year-old man from Hampton, was taken to an area hospital for evaluation of possible injuries before being transported to the Rockingham County Jail.
- He refused bail and was held pending an appearance in Brentwood District Court, the state police said.
charges filed
State police said the man faces two counts of felony reckless conduct with a deadly weapon. He also faces multiple misdemeanor and violation-level charges, including:
- aggravated driving while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated
- disobeying an officer and resisting arrest
- conduct after an accident and willful interference with police dogs
- driving after suspension, reckless driving and disorderly conduct
The investigation remains ongoing, state police said. Officials did not provide further details about the driver’s condition or any prior contacts with law enforcement in public statements included in police summaries of the case.
Police credited the K-9 deployment for safely ending the pursuit after it traversed multiple highways and municipal jurisdictions, and said troopers and local departments worked together to deploy tire-deflation devices and coordinate the response.
