AAA’s weekly national fuel and energy snapshot released Oct. 26 shows the U.S. average price for a gallon of regular gasoline fell 6 cents over the previous week to $4.27, while New Hampshire ranked among the states with the highest public electric vehicle charging cost at 47 cents per kilowatt-hour, the motoring organization said.
What AAA and the Energy Information Administration reported
AAA attributed the weekly drop in pump prices in part to the seasonal switch to winter-blend gasoline, which it said is cheaper to produce. AAA’s national average for regular unleaded stood at $4.2701 on Wednesday, down from $4.3344 one week earlier and below the one-month average of $4.4750. A year ago the national average was $3.0656, AAA reported.
- Crude oil: West Texas Intermediate crude settled at $97.15 per barrel on Wednesday, AAA reported, a decline of 67 cents for the session.
- Refining and supplies: The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported nationwide gasoline production rose from 9.23 million barrels per day to 9.75 million barrels per day, while total domestic gasoline stocks fell from 208.3 million barrels to 205.3 million barrels.
- Inventories: U.S. crude oil inventories decreased by 3.1 million barrels to 412.5 million barrels, about 3% below the five-year average, according to the EIA figures cited by AAA.
Electric vehicle charging costs in New Hampshire
AAA’s state-by-state breakdown of public charging prices placed New Hampshire in the top 10 most expensive states for public EV charging, at 47 cents per kWh. Only a handful of states — such as Hawaii and West Virginia — had higher public charging averages in AAA’s list.
AAA also published lists of the nation’s most and least expensive gasoline markets. California, Hawaii and Washington topped the list of most expensive states for fuel, while several Southern and Midwestern states recorded the lowest pump prices.
What the numbers mean for Granite Staters
The AAA and EIA numbers provide contemporaneous measures of energy costs affecting consumers: average retail gasoline prices at the pump, crude oil prices in financial markets and public EV charging prices used by drivers who rely on commercial chargers. The organizations’ data reflect weekly changes that can be influenced by crude oil markets, refinery production, seasonal fuel blends and regional supply balances.
AAA’s national summary and the EIA production and inventory figures were issued Oct. 26 by those organizations, which collect and synthesize market and survey data on a recurring basis.
