Unitil Corp. reported higher revenue and a wider net loss for the third quarter of 2026 in a Form 10-Q filed Nov. 2 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The filing also detailed growth in the company’s New Hampshire water business and higher electric margins associated primarily with approved rates.

Revenue reached $112.6 million for the quarter, compared with $101.1 million during the same period in 2025, an increase of 11.4%. Unitil recorded a net loss of $1.5 million, compared with a loss of $300,000 a year earlier. The diluted loss was 8 cents per share, compared with 2 cents per share in the prior-year quarter.

Financial results through September

For the first nine months of the year, Unitil reported operating revenue of $446.5 million, a 19% increase from the comparable period. The company attributed the increase to higher rates, customer growth, acquisitions and colder winter weather.

  • Unitil’s nine-month electric adjusted gross margin increased by $9.6 million, primarily because of higher rates.
  • Electric customer counts rose by about 430 from a year earlier.
  • Capital expenditures totaled $144.4 million during the first nine months.

The company said its June acquisition of AWC-NH and Abenaki added about 10,700 water customers and began service in eight New Hampshire communities. The acquisition was included among the factors affecting Unitil’s nine-month operating results.

Utility investments and rate proceedings

Unitil’s filing said its capital spending supported system improvements. The company also identified approved rate adjustments and pending rate cases as matters that may support future recovery of costs. The filing did not provide a new residential electric rate for New Hampshire.

The company’s gas operations also contributed to the nine-month results. Unitil said gas adjusted gross margin increased by $17.2 million from the prior-year period. Maine Natural added about 6,300 customers during the period, while the New Hampshire water additions came through the AWC-NH and Abenaki acquisition.

The third-quarter loss came as Unitil reported higher revenue across the nine-month period and continued spending on utility systems. The filing presented the results alongside the company’s customer growth, rate adjustments, acquisitions and pending rate cases.
